Starting An Indoor Herb Garden
Jul 06
An indoor herb garden is easy to begin. All it takes is a windowsill, a couple of dirt-filled ceramic pots, and some seeds, and you are on your way. But you may be wondering which herbs make the best beginner projects, especially with so many to choose from.
The truth is, most herbs are easy to grow. But there are some that you are more likely to use on a regular basis, and that is a great place to start. If you are wanting to grow herbs for cooking the basics are usually bay, basil, oregano, parsley, and thyme. Be careful with the bay plant, however, as it can grow quickly and in great number.
If you are looking for something for teas, which is becoming increasingly popular, try chamomile, spearmint, peppermint, or even medicinal items like a small lavender plant or valerian. All of these can be picked, dried, and steeped to make wonderful herbal teas for any occasion.
Terragon, rosemary, dill, and garlic are other great options, as they are so commonly added to foods, and having a fresh stock is a wonderful way to add flavor to your favorite recipes. Just remember that anything can make a great herb garden, but it is love that makes it grow.
